Dylan Thomas Centre: A permanent exhibition on Dylan Thomas and his life, as well as a bookshop and cosy cafe stuffed with books, posters and memorabilia.  The Centre is also home to many literary events throughout the year, including the annual Dylan Thomas Festival during October and November. It also has an excellent restaurant, and the beautifully refurbished building provides a great setting for weddings, functions and conferences.

Elysium Gallery: A dynamic and contemporary artist-run venue for the visual arts. They provide a platform and vital stepping stone for artists, allowing them the opportunity and experience of showcasing their work in a city centre space. A unique, exciting and forward thinking gallery.

Monkey Café: This quirky café-bar-club exhibits the work of local artists and photographers upon the walls and stages one-off art events that may include slam poetry, film, music, dance and performance. Salsa classes run every Tuesday 7.30pm-9.30pm for £4.

Taliesin Arts Centre: Based on campus at the University of Wales Swansea, this popular arthouse venue presents an innovative programme of dance and performance.

Groups and Organisations

Creative Industries Research and Innovation Centre (CIRIC): CIRIC is funded by The Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO), Swansea Institute and private sector finance to re-invigorate the creative industries sector within Wales. For too long creative practitioners have been forced to leave Wales to gain access to the necessary resources that are needed to further their

Framework: An artist collective based in Swansea. On the first Tuesday of every month they host the event `Framework Social' at St.James Social Club, Uplands, Swansea. It is a space for artists, arts related practitioners and people from the community to meet and socialise where they show a consistently high standard of experimental live art, performance work, spoken word, video work, installation, drawing and work by multi-disciplinary artists from Swansea, Cardiff and other parts of the UK.

Junkbox Poetry Group: Junkbox is a new poetry group that meets to help develop aspiring poets. The group meets on the first and second Thursdays of each month, 7.30 - 9pm at the Dylan Thomas Centre. There is no charge, and the aim of the group is to discuss poems, develop ideas for writing and offer constructive but firm criticism. The group also aspires to develop work that can be performed at the open mic sessions at the Dylan Thomas Centre's Poets in the Bookshop events on the last Thursday of each month.

Swansea Theatre Arts Register (STAR): Comprehensive listings for events, classes, performances, organisations and rehearsal space for dance and performing arts in South West Wales.

Creative Writing, Swansea University: The MA in Creative and Media Writing is a unique programme that offers integrated training in the writing of literary and media text. The MA provides core training and individual pathways in the major genres of contemporary literary and media writing.

Seren: An independent literary publisher, specialising in English-language writing from Wales.

Welsh Books Council: An independent, national body that provides a focus for the publishing industry in Wales.
Academi: The Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Authors. The Academi runs events, courses, competitions, including the Cardiff International Poetry Competition, with the support of Cardiff Council and offering a First Prize of £5000, conferences, tours by authors, lectures, international exchanges, events for schools, readings, literary performances and festivals. Academi is also responsible for the National Poet of Wales project and the Encyclopaedia of Wales. The Academi works with the support of the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Arts Council Wales: Their new look website offers a complete overview of the Arts Council of Wales' work, funding information and also a comprehensive arts database featuring some of Wales' foremost arts organisations and practitioners.

Honno: An independent co-operative press run by women and committed to bringing you the best in Welsh women's writing. Most of Honno's titles are novels, autobiographies and short story anthologies in English but it also publishes poetry, children's and teenage titles and books in Welsh.

New Welsh Review: A literary magazine that's intelligent, contemporary and with critical acumen: the very best of new writing from Wales.

Parthian Books: Based in Cardigan/Aberteifi on the west coast of Wales, Parthian publish many of the younger generation of Welsh writers such as Lloyd Robson, Rachel Trezise and Matthew David Scott. But while what they publish reflects a diverse contemporary Wales it is also based around stories and perspectives from writers who are looking out or write about a wider world.

Planet - The Welsh Internationalist: A bi-monthly magazine covering the arts, culture and politics in Wales and beyond. In addition to features on and interviews with contemporary Welsh artists and writers, it includes political analysis, both of Welsh affairs and international issues. Several poems and one short story are published in every issue of the magazine.

Poetry Wales: Quarterly magazine of poetry and criticism from Wales and the world under editor Robert Minhinnick.
