Performance Spaces

Dylan Thomas Centre: A permanent exhibition on Dylan Thomas and his life, as well as a bookshop and cosy cafe stuffed with books, posters and memorabilia.  The Centre is also home to many literary events throughout the year, including the annual Dylan Thomas Festival during October and November. It also has an excellent restaurant, and the beautifully refurbished building provides a great setting for weddings, functions and conferences.

Elysium Gallery: A dynamic and contemporary artist-run venue for the visual arts. They provide a platform and vital stepping stone for artists, allowing them the opportunity and experience of showcasing their work in a city centre space. A unique, exciting and forward thinking gallery.

Mambo: Tuesday is Community Night at this café-bar with free African dance classes and their drumming circle for everyone.

Monkey Café: This quirky café-bar-club exhibits the work of local artists and photographers upon the walls and stages one-off art events that may include film, music, dance and performance. Salsa classes run every Tuesday 7.30pm-9.30pm for £4.

Ostreme Centre: It has been at the heart of Mumbles life for over a quarter of a century and offers a diverse range of classes, arts and craft activities, live performances and a regular craft fair.

Taliesin Arts Centre: Based on campus at the University of Wales Swansea, this popular arthouse venue presents an innovative programme of dance and performance.

Creative Industries Research and Innovation Centre (CIRIC): CIRIC is funded by The Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO), Swansea Institute and private sector finance to re-invigorate the creative industries sector within Wales. Framework: An artist collective based in Swansea. On the first Tuesday of every month they host the event `Framework Social' at St.James Social Club, Uplands, Swansea. It is a space for artists, arts related practitioners and people from the community to meet and socialise where they show a consistently high standard of experimental live art, performance work, spoken word, video work, installation, drawing and work by multi-disciplinary artists from Swansea, Cardiff and other parts of the UK.

Swansea Theatre Arts Register (STAR): Comprehensive listings for events, classes, performances, organisations and rehearsal space for dance and performing arts in South West Wales.

Tan Dance: The Community Dance Organisation for City & County of Swansea & Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.

Council for Dance Education and Training: The Council for Dance Education and Training is the national standards body of the professional dance industry. It accredits programmes of training in vocational dance schools and holds the Register of Dance Awarding Bodies - the directory of teaching societies whose syllabuses have been inspected and approved by the Council. It is the body of advocacy of the dance education and training communities and offers a free and comprehensive information service, Answers for Dancers, on all aspects of vocational dance provision to students, parents, teachers dance artists and employers.


Arts Council Wales: Their new look website offers a complete overview of the Arts Council of Wales' work, funding information and also a comprehensive arts database featuring some of Wales' foremost arts organisations and practitioners.

Community Dance Wales: Connects communities with professional dance practice by providing creative opportunities for everyone to participate in the dance experience. It is the national umbrella body which supports and develops best practice in community dance throughout Wales. CDW is a membership organisation providing: advice, information, training, networking and a strong voice speaking out for the dance sector.

Diversions - The Dance Company of Wales: Diversions performs work from established international choreographers in a versatile and exciting repertoire of dance. Since its origin in 1983, Diversions has developed into an award winning company and is the National Dance Company of Wales. They are based at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.

India Dance Wales: As the pioneers of Indian Dance in Wales since 1993, India Dance Wales is committed to making the visually dynamic and internationally popular Classical Indian Dance style of Bharata Natyam inspiring for the familiar and accessible to the unfamiliar. Their aims are to share, learn, know, enjoy and develop the skill of Bharata Natyam with the whole of society regardless of cultural background, colour or creed. To educate and involve the general public in greater appreciation and understanding of Classical Indian Dance both as audience and participants.

Welsh Independent Dance: National artist-led umbrella organisation for professional dance artists working independently in Wales.
